Natives in South America used cashew shell oil in the treatment of scurvy, sores, warts, ringworm, and psoriasis. The oil is found to have potent antibacterial properties. Not many plants can claim to provide so many benefits. Cashews provide essential fatty acids, B vitamins, fiber, protein, potassium, iron, and zinc. They are also lower in total fat than almonds, peanuts, pecans, and walnuts. –

Healthy Fats

Seventy-five percent of the fat in cashew butter is oleic acid, the type of heart-healthy unsaturated fat found in olive oil. Substituting unsaturated fats for saturated fats found in animal products and tropical oils can help improve your cholesterol levels, notes the American Heart Association.

Uses

Cashew butter is usually sold raw, and requires refrigeration after opening to prevent it becoming rancid. Cashew butter does not usually contain added sugar, making it a healthy alternative to sweetened peanut butters. Use it in lieu of peanut butter for cookies or peanut sauces. Add cashew butter to a smoothie made with frozen bananas and soy milk to make a mock ice cream
