A variety of parasites can infect the intestinal tract.
Parasitic infections have become more common with international travel over the last few years. Unfortunately but not surprisingly, they can cause a variety of symptoms, such as fatigue, constipation, diarrhea, vomiting, heartburn, chills, stomach pain or loss of appetite.
If you suspect having a parasitic infection, there is a natural way to treat it. It’s called a parasite cleanse, and I strongly advise you do one as well as eat an anti-parasite diet for a period of time to heal yourself.
What Are Parasites?
Parasites are generally acquired from consuming contaminated food or water, but people with imbalanced gut flora, leaky gut syndrome or a weakened immune system may be more susceptible.
A parasite is an organism that lives on or in a host and gets its food from or at the expense of its host. Yes, not pleasant. Worse, parasites can cause disease in humans. Some parasitic diseases are easily treated and some are not.
So let’s discuss how to kill off parasites. Now, I would estimate about 50 percent or more Americans carry parasites, and you may wonder where somebody get a parasite besides. One is pork, if you’ve ever eaten pork. Pork can carry parasites and worms, so if you eat pork consistently, there’s a chance that you have a parasite.
Also, as mentioned above, if you’ve ever been to another country like China, India, Africa, Mexico, even trips to places like Cancun, if you drank the water or if you eat some of their food, there’s a great chance that you could have picked up a parasite.
Specifically, if you came back and had dysentery or some problem with your stomach afterwards — such as something the CDC calls persistent travelers’ diarrhea — it’s very likely that you have a parasite.
Roundworms: Roundworms, also called nematodes, can lay hundreds of thousands of eggs a day. Symptoms include stomach pain, trouble sleeping, respiratory issues, and rashes. Roundworm larvae can go through the intestines to the bloodstream and spread to other organs. They’re about the thickness of earthworms.
Pinworms: Symptoms of pinworms include an itchy anus, mood disorders, and GI tract upset. These parasites crawl out of the anus at night to lay eggs. They’re only about a half an inch long.
Tapeworms: Tapeworms can live inside human intestines for almost a decade, causing weight loss, hunger, and poor absorption of nutrients. They can also cause no symptoms at all. It’s possible for tapeworms to grow 20-30 feet long.
Hookworms: Hookworms have sharp teeth they use to penetrate the skin and consume blood. Hookworms can cause fatigue, anemia, swelling, brain fog, and stomach pain. They generally settle in the intestines but can affect the lungs, too
Ropeworms: Ropeworms are a recent classification of parasites. They’re usually seen during a parasite cleanse or after coffee enemas. They can be 1-2 feet long and bumpy in texture.
Flatworms: Flatworms can be found in the bladder, lungs, liver, kidneys, GI tract. There are many types of flatworms, and they can range from microscopic to 50 feet long.
Flukes: Flukes look like small tongues and have a sucker they use to attach to their hosts. Liver flukes are the most common types of flukes found in the human body, but there are also blood, urinary, intestinal, lung, and other kinds of flukes.
Whipworms: Though commonly found in dogs, whipworms can affect humans as well. Whipworms can be contracted by contaminated dirt or foods that have not been thoroughly washed or cooked. Symptoms include blood in stools, stomach pain, nausea, and weight loss. They’re usually about 1-2 inches and shaped like a small whip–one thicker end and one thinner end.

2. The Anti-Parasite Diet
Natural Remedies for Yeast and Parasite Infestation
The good news is that there are some natural treatments that are effective at helping the body kill and remove yeast and parasites. If you suspect that you have an overgrowth, you might consider some of the treatments below:
Dietary Adjustments– If you do have yeast or parasites, any sugars at all can feed an infestation and make removal very uncomfortable. If you are embarking on a natural treatment for Candida, fungi or parasites, remove all sources of natural sugar from you diet, including sources like honey and fruits.
Some Stevia is ok once in a while, but avoid anything that gives the body a sugar source and feeds yeast or parasites. Consider also avoiding dairy for 1-2 weeks to give you body a boost.
Sweat– As your body kills off parasites and yeast, their by-products must be removed from the body, along with the toxins that they might have bound to.
Some of these are best removed through the sweat glands, so let your body sweat by exercising, taking cayenne supplements and getting in hot tubs or saunas during the healing process.
Diatomaceous Earth– This is a naturally occurring substance that has amazing ability to kill parasites, yeast and parasite eggs. It is naturally high in silica, which is necessary for hair, nail and skin growth, and has other trace minerals as well.
It can also help restore body tissue and improve digestion. If you decide to take this supplementally, start with 1 tsp per day in 8 ounces of water and work up to 1-2 TBSP a day until yeast symptoms disappear. Read info below on Herxheimers reaction! Also, make sure to use food grade Diatomaceous earth! More info here.
Apple Cider Vinegar- Another easy and effective remedy for Candida and parasites. Apple Cider Vinegar is high in B-vitamins and very nourishing to the body. It help the body’s pH neutralize and improves digestion. It is well known for killing yeast and improving skin condition.
Some people are leery of vinegar, as a fermented product, when they have a yeast infection. While some fermented products like beer and wine can feed yeast, Apple Cider Vinegar undergoes a much different fermentation process and produces a completely different reaction in the body.
It tastes awful, but after taking it for a while, you will become more tolerant of the taste, and your body will start to crave it. Start with 1 tsp up to 3 times a day about 30 minutes before each meal (some people can’t handle it before breakfast!). If you handle this well, this dosage can be increased to a tablespoon.
Probiotics– Probiotics restore the helpful gut bacteria that is wiped out by yeast or parasites (or antibiotic or oral contraceptive use). Probiotics are necessary to restore proper intestinal flora, even after yeast and parasites have been removed.
A high quality probiotic supplement should be included, taken according to product instruction. Do not take probiotics within an hour of Apple Cider Vinegar or Diatomaceous Earth! You might also consider drinks like Kombucha and Water Kefir to help build up probiotic levels, or whole plain full-fat yogurt.
Cinnamon– is a natural remedy for parasites and fungus. Take ½ tsp of a high quality cinnamon powder in water up to three times a day.
Vitamin C– Besides being an excellent antioxidant and immune support, Vitamin C is helpful in yeast/parasite removal. If you have symptoms of yeast and parasites, take 5,000 mg (5 grams) per day spread out in 2-3 doses. Do not take vitamin C at the same time as calcium/magnesium as they will neutralize each other.
High consumption of Vitamin C may cause loose bowel movements, especially when yeast and parasites are being removed. This is not necessarily worrisome, but if it bothers you, adjust the dose down until symptoms go away.
Coconut Oil– Coconut Oil is naturally anti fungal and very nourishing to the body. Hopefully, you are using it in your cooking by now, but consider taking several tablespoons a day additional as an antifungal support. This will also help support the hormones and reproductive system.
To make it easier to take, dissolve a couple tablespoons in a hot tea of choice and drink. The first couple sips will be coconut oil, and then you will just taste the tea.
Garlic– To help remove yeast and parasites, finely mince 1-2 cloves and drink in a cup of water before meals.
Olive Oil– Also an antifungal that supports removal of parasite and yeast waste. Add 1-2 TBSP or more to salads or veggies, or take supplementally.
Other Herbs known to help with yeast and parasites: Oregano Oil, Thyme, Peppermint, Rosemary, Olive Leaf Extract and Grapefruit Seed Extract. If you have a severe case of yeast or parasites, consider using on of these potent herbs, but do your research first!
Herxheimer’s Reaction
I mentioned above that removal of yeast and parasites can be uncomfortable at times. This reaction, named after the German dermatologist who discovered it, is basically the discomfort caused by the die off of yeast and parasites and the body’s attempt to remove them.
The faster you attempt to treat symptoms and the more potent remedies you take, the higher your chance of experiencing this reaction.
It is best to be on an anti yeast/parasite diet for several weeks before starting supplements to help minimize this reaction. Starting with small doses of Apple Cider Vinegar and Diatomaceous Earth and then working up will also help keep die off symptoms at bay.
You may even find that you “catch a cold” a week or so after starting to treat your yeast and parasite symptoms. This is actually a mild Herxheimer reaction, and backing down supplements and drinking more water should help it pass quickly.
Other Important Notes
Removing yeast and parasites is a difficult job for your body. During this process, it is highly important that you support your body as much as possible with regular exercise, good diet, adequate sleep, and limiting exposure to toxins.
Soaking in an Epsom salt bath (1/2 cup Epsom salts in hot bath water) will also help remove toxins through the skin. Drinking enough water will help flush die off toxins out faster, and adequate sleep will give the body enough time to regenerate.
During this time, it is also vitally important that you do not consume sugar or carbs, as this will make the process much slower and much more uncomfortable. Consuming enough raw vegetables during this time will also help keep your energy levels up and clean the body faster. If you can stomach it, try drinking a veggie smoothie they work wonders.
A grain-free and sugar-free diet is vital in removing yeast and parasites from the body. If you suspect that you have yeast or parasites,
The single most important action you can take to ridding yourself of parasites is to take away their food supply – and that means sugar in all its forms:
No processed foods
No carbs
No grains
No alcohol
No sugar… including fruit
Essentially, you need to go on a Paleo-Diet only without any fruit. We recommend you stay on this diet for at least 5-6 weeks.
By cutting out their food supply, you stop them from multiplying. Your body’s defenses have a chance to begin eliminating and flushing them.
However, parasites are resilient and crafty, and it helps to have some help breaking down their defenses.
Now what’s even more important is your diet. In order to kill parasites in your system and kill off the bad bacteria and the fungus that these parasites live off of, you’ve got to get rid of bad bacteria. To do that, you must go on a diet that is free of all sugar and all grains — pretty close to a Paleo diet.
When you’re going to do a parasite cleanse, I even recommend that you limit your fruit intake or eat no fruit whatsoever. So rather than a berry smoothie, you just drink a coconut smoothie with coconut milk, chia seeds and protein powder; Use a Vitamix, (Don’t have one? I will get you one at a discount) Now, for lunch, do a big salad; and for dinner, prepare organic meat and double the vegetables, staying completely away from any form of grains or sugar, including fruit.
Now another thing I want to talk about is pumpkin seeds. Sprouted Pumpkin seeds are the No. 1 food that kills off parasites. (2) So one of the things I’ve personally done if I’m doing a parasite cleanse, I’ll take pumpkin seeds and eat one cup a day — half a cup, I may throw in a smoothie in the morning and another half a cup in the afternoon, or you can make pumpkin seed butter, throwing this into something like a Vitamix blender along with pumpkin seed oil that they carry that at most health food stores.
So pumpkin seeds and pumpkin seed oil, and I’ll eat this throughout the day as well in order to kill off parasites.

Again, Here are some other top anti-parasite foods:
Garlic and onions – Both of these immune-boosting vegetables have anti-parasitic effects.
Herbs – Certain herbs, like oregano and ginger, can have antibacterial and antiparasitic effects.
Fresh Papaya juice – This potent juice can have anti-parasitic effects.
Coconut oil – Coconut oil has antibacterial and antimicrobial properties.
Probiotic rich foods – Consuming high probiotic foods like kefir, sauerkraut and yogurt can keep parasites in check and improve the health of the gut.
And here are the foods you want to avoid:
During a parasite cleanse, the number one thing to avoid is their main fuel source. So where does sugar lurk? Is sugar the only thing to avoid? Cookies, cakes, candy, and artificially colored cereals are obvious sugar sources. But as stated above, there are some seemingly healthy foods with high sugar content, sometimes more than the cookies!
Besides commercial dressing and sweetened yogurts, a surprising amount of sugar can be found in:
- Granola bars (a staple in most school-aged children’s lunches)
- Muffins and bagels (usually chosen over donuts as a “healthier” choice but still slam you with 8 teaspoons of sugar)
- Ketchup (cup vs cup, ketchup has 21 grams more sugar than vanilla ice cream!)
- Dried fruit (often sprayed with sugar and other additives to preserve their color)
- Applesauce (a small container of sweetened applesauce can have as much as 22 grams)
- Smoothies from popular franchises can have as much sugar as 2 cans of soda
- Nut butter and other staple sandwich spreads may be high in hidden sweeteners
Flavored oatmeal - Jams (don’t let the “fruit juice sweetened” label fool you! It can have just as much sugar as regular)
- Non-dairy milk options are often heavily sweetened
- Flavored coffees and bottled teas
- Jerky and other processed meats
- Protein powders and protein bars
- Coleslaw (may seem healthy because it’s full of vegetables but can pack 12 grams of sugar in a small serving)
- Sauces like BBQ, teriyaki, honey mustard, sweet and sour are extremely high in sugar
- Canned foods (including vegetables)
- Frozen meals
- Table salt (yes, even the wrong brand of salt will contain sugar!)
- Orange juice (a breakfast favorite chosen for its precious vitamin c, nails you with five teaspoons of sugar in only 8 oz! Remember that a can of soda has seven teaspoons in 12 oz, so orange juice has more sugar per ounce!)
- Sugar – Feeds parasites and lowers immune functioning. Dairy has milk sugar
- Processed foods – Foods that are highly processed do not support immune health.
- Alcohol – Does not allow for proper immune system functioning.
- Wheat – Many grains, especially those containing gluten, can break down into sugar quickly and cause intestinal inflammation.
- Pork – Can be highly contaminated with parasites.
Wash Your Veg!
It is also extremely important to avoid eating all meat except grass fed, gluten, dairy, eggs and seafood and stick to more of a plant based diet while cleansing, if you can. If not go Paleo with no fruits.
If you are eating at home more during your cleanse, use this Ozone Fruit and Vegetable Washer to wash all parasites, fungicides, pesticides and the likes from your veggies. We use ours weekly, just to keep the toxins out of our system. Preparation Tip: Eating organic is always great but it is extremely important to remember that organic produce needs to be cleaned thoroughly, especially while cleansing.
3. Do a Few Colonics
I also recommend doing a few colonics, probably two to three colon cleanses, once a week for three weeks while doing your two-to-four week parasite cleanse. Find a place that offers this in your area.
Why Do a Colon Cleanse?
The colon is home to billions of microflora (bacteria) that actually make up approximately 70 percent of the dry weight of feces. Besides forming stool, the various beneficial bacterial organisms living within the colon and digestive tract are important for proper nutrient absorption, maintaining pH balance, controlling hunger and counteracting potentially dangerous bacteria. This is why a well-functioning colon is so important for overall well-being.
Are colon cleanses really necessary? While the digestive system has its own processes for removing waste, many people struggle with having regular, complete bowel movements due to various reasons like poor gut health, allergies, consumption of pesticide chemicals and inflammation within the digestive system.
Final Thoughts
If you take the supplements, get rid of the sugar from your diet, take the pumpkin seeds, and follow that protocol and do so strictly for at least one-month period of time, then you should be able to cleanse yourself of parasites.
You Will Also Need To Support Your Liver
One thing you won’t hear many people tell you about is how this process affects your liver. Not only are anti-parasitic herbs taxing on your primary detox organ, but when the parasites begin dying off, they release a tremendous amount of toxic debris into your system.
And it all ends up in your liver.
If you haven’t had a clean diet for a while, the anti-parasite diet can actually compound the problem. Without the usual supply of sugar, carbs, and/or alcohol your body may be accustomed to, the rest of your tissues may also begin to detox.
This all adds up to an overtaxed liver in need of some support.
So, what can you do?
For one, drink plenty of water to help your system flush the toxins and be sure to get some exercise to help with your circulation. At least half your body weight in ounces a day! The solution to pollution is DILUTION
You may also want to consider some specific supplements to help with this part of your parasite cleanse. Complete Multi + Liver Detox Support has a special formula specifically for supporting your liver in situations like this.
Your detox systems are largely driven by amino acids, so ensuring you have an adequate supply of amino acids can help your liver keep up with the extra load. Branched Chain Amino s can help keep you nourished, energized, and detoxing effectively.
2 Drinks To Support Your Cleanse
Morning Parasite Cleanse:
12 oz Water
1-2 Tbs Apple Cider Vinegar
Lemon
10-15 drops Grapefruit Seed Extract
1 tsp Food Grade Diatomaceous Earth
As we mentioned above, apple cider vinegar and grapefruit seed extract both help to weaken parasites and establish balance in your gut environment. Diatomaceous earth is a fine silica powder made from the skeletons of prehistoric diatoms. It is harmless to you but helps to break down the biofilms and cellular walls of parasites.
Anti-Parasite Tea:
1 Tbsp Pao d’Arco
Steep 10-15 min in hot water
Pao d’Arco is a remarkable South American plant with a host of beneficial immunological effects – not the least of which is anti-parasitic. It has a pleasant, mild taste, so you can sip this throughout your day while cleansing your system.
Quick Recap of a Complete Parasite Cleanse Protocol:
Go on a strict Paleo-style diet or vegetarian, strictly eliminating all carbs and sugar.
Enrich your diet with anti-parasitic foods, spices, and herbs.
Use extracts of powerful anti-parasitic plants in a parasite cleanse product found at your local health store. Remember: 2 weeks on, 1 week off, 2 weeks on, depending on the directions on the bottle.
Support your liver with lots of water, herbs or products.
If you follow this protocol, you are certain to knock out any hidden parasitic offenders!
